It has been a steady stream of VFP projects over here, thank God. The only thing that has changed is the backend - its MySQL over DBFs. There are a few clients who would insist not using VFP though. Then, that's the time I would push for it to be web-based, using PHP + MySQL. Most clients we get to meet don't even ask or bother to know what language is to be used.
As a fallback, my directions would be toward Python. As John Fabiani has pointed out, I find the community (esp Dabo) pretty close to home (VFP). As a general rule of thumb, me and my partner prefer the open-source path - preferring community-based stuff over M$-type stuff.
