Oh with the current system you get very little for yourself. You get your income taxed, probably from an employer who had to pay some more taxes on top of that, plus his corporate tax, so he already paid you less than he may have. Then you get to buy stuff which is taxed at retail, plus it's made by people who have to pay their corporate tax, tax on pretty much anything they buy for manufacturing (including energy, materials, services), and tax on their own salaries. Of course, they calculate their prices so they will be able to pay all those taxes and still take some money home. So, you're paying your own income tax, some of your employer's tax, retail tax and some of the manufacturer's taxes. It's all in the size of your income (which may have been larger) and the price of stuff you buy (which could have been lower).

And, saying that, I don't mind the existence of the tax somewhere, but this way of accumulating power in the state has gotten out of hand long ago. We're paying so many taxes (regardless of the country) that it's ridiculous. And what are we buying with that money? Laws that benefit corporations, propaganda to convince us it's for our own good, police to protect the system from us, and salaries for the tax enforcers.

Times are tough.
