>>I wouldn't deploy anything file-server based nowadays, simply because of the SMB2 issue, which will not be fixed on time (if ever). There are graffitti, and anyone who thinks that M$ will support file sharing with record locking again is taking a nice risk, IMO. So, any database server.

It works... until you run into the SMB2 problem, which happens whenever you mix a Vista/7/S2008 with any older Windowses among workstations hitting the same files on the server. Then you get technicolor stool. The Vista may be a thing of the ugly past, but W7 isn't going anywhere, and Serve 2008 is rather frequent too. And you can bet your pants that the at least end user will want your app to work with such a server from a XP or evern W2000 workstation... and then there's no guarantee that record locking will actually work as it did in SMB1-only world.
IOW, it worked, but they fixed it. And now how many years is it since this bug is not being fixed?
