You're missing my point. The limits of Metro are such that Metro apps are not near as useful as rich desktop apps on Windows desktop. Obviously Windows 8 has been available for Microsoft to build prototypes for many months.

And yes, I fully expect a company to show something useful when they show something new, especially when they expect and promote others to adopt it.

To me, Metro apps are subsets of rich desktop apps, a kind of hybrid between desktop and web apps. Metro apps will work well with a touch screen, even though over 99% of people that use Windows computers use a keyboard rather than touch screen. And people often use a tablet or touch device different than how they use a PC or Mac.
