>despite being (as you know) a communist interested in the overthrow of capitalism and its replacement by a workers paradise I do think people should be more responsible for their own general health and well being. Without wanting to get into the medicare issue they are costs that could be reduced enormously by sensible eating and exercise. If person want burger fries and a shake then fine, just don't have it every day and when you do wlk there.

I don't think those positions are inconsistent at all. Historically workers' paradises ( paradi ? parodies? ) have resulted in food shortages that I am sure would go a long way to combating obesity. <bg> ( you will remember the Cambridge circle in the 30s was quite enamoured of Stalin's program to slim down the Ukraine )

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
