They are functionally equivalent, with the exception of a couple of things like XML Literals. But it isn't just your perception. The VB community is saying the same thing and I know of several long time VB devs that have moved to C#. Go watch some of the videos from the Build conference. You'll see that VB often mentioned, but rarely used in the presentations.
