Once you've got it working under a LAN connection, dealing with WiFi and remote type connections is dealing with network configuration --- mainly understanding how the various parts connect to each other. The other part is understanding how networks work -- you should be able to find various tutorials about IP networks (for example http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/a/subnetmask.htm )
