>>>>>I was watching O'Reilly Friday night, and his man-on-the-street reporter (can't remember his name) said that he had interviewed one of the protesters. He asked the guy what he was protesting, and the guy said he was protesting the lack of jobs. The reporter asked him if he had a job. The protester replied that he quit his job so he could come to the protest. The Democratic base, folks...

I apologize. I should have chosen a different word. The word redneck is open to interpretation and I did not mean it in one of the harsher ways, i.e. you're ignorant. Obviously you are not.

What I meant was you seem increasingly conservative and increasingly likely to join in nudge-nudge wink-wink mockery of non-conservatives. That's the way I meant it and still don't consider it an admirable habit. (Any more than it would be admirable from the other end of the spectrum). Seriously, it's water under the bridge for me and hope it is for you, too.

This probably belongs in a new thread but I am trying to avoid starting any new political threads, so will toss it in as an aside here. What do you think of today's news about Hank Williams, Jr.? For those who missed it, ESPN announced that his song about "Are you ready for some football?!" would not open tonight's Monday Night Football broadcast, as it has for a long time. This was in reaction to comments Hank Jr. made on Fox likening President Obama to Adolf Hitler.

I can go either way on Hank's suspension, which was cagily left open ended by ESPN as far as duration. I am a big free speech guy and for that reason think he should not be punished for saying what he thinks. OTOH I see the network's position that what he said is not something they want representing them.

For whatever it's worth, I like his music well enough and have a couple of his older albums. My favorite is "Ballad of Hank Williams," a spoof of Johnny Horton's country chestnut "Battle of New Orleans."

The original Hank Williams remains one of my favorite musicians in any genre. Those songs he wrote, they were timeless. And I seem to have an affinity for musical tortured souls -- Hank Sr., Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Mozart, any number of bluesmen, Kurt Cobain, Gram Parsons, Sam Cooke, on and on. Hmmm.
