Not easy to sneak into New Zealand -- good one. Not exactly like walking across an artificially defined border.
I remember years ago when Lisa Slater (then) wanted to move to NZ to be with Colin Nicholls. Did they ever make her jump through hoops. They wanted to know who she would be working for. She said I am an independent (truer words were never spoken), I work for myself. And it sort of settled in that mode for months. She was one of the world's leading experts in her field, FoxPro, and had a degree from Harvard, but their basic posture was you seem without job prospects in our country. Eventually she wore them down and got in.
