What is not a dead horse in this context, is the discussion of what weshould do to be less dependent on the environment we develop in, because this kind of conundrum where we need to move from one technology to another seems to be here to stay.

Maybe we should not invest so much in one technology only? Maybe we should "curb our enthusiasm" (hope this is not copyright protected) about the technology we chose? Maybe we should ask ourselves what would be different in the way we develop our projects if we knew that we will not be developing in that technology until we die?

Maybe we should warn our clients that changes of technology could warrant major additional investments. Maybe we should explicitly guarantee our software for only so much years .

Maybe....

I'm sure this is of course very dependent on the business environment one works in, but the issue itself must be dealt with no matter what that business environment is.

My (declining) 2 Eurocents.

If things have the tendency to go your way, do not worry. It won't last. Jules Renard.
