Involvement led directly to many of the benefits enjoyed to this day.
Actually I've read quite a bit about the balloon bombs and have seen several good documentaries on them. Very stealthy to wherever they wind up.
They were working on disbursing biological weapons with them. Plague infested fleas was one of the areas of research. That may actually have been effective far beyond the effort to develop and deploy them had they started doing it.
They used the Chinese as test subjects.
