>>>>Hi,
>>>>
>>>>I have access to a set of video tutorials from LearnDevNow. Yesterday I was trying to get a feel for the Azure Service Bus usage and came across a 'Service Bus Demo' video on their site, watched the entire thing (for about 15 mins) then went away to try writing my own version.
>>>>Mine wouldn't work :-{
>>>>Whilst browsing around looking looking for more information that might reveal the problem I came across a sample application that is included in the Azure AppFrabirc SDK. The code was identical to that laboriously typed in the LearnDev video - so the guy was obviously sitting there typing in the code from another monitor ( I remember at the time wondering why he was using MS namespaces in his sample).
>>>>Am I wrong in expecting the presenter to reveal some true understanding of the process being discussed rather than just the ability to type? And to add insult to injury you are expected to pay extra to access the source !
>>>>
>>>>That said, there is a lot of good content, at least of the "Introduction to...." type, in the LearnDev series in general.....
>>>
>>>
>>>I went to the Microsoft Azure bootcamp last spring. One of the things I noticed was that the presenters were extremely reluctant to change anything in the samples - the reason was obvious when crashes occurred anytime they did.
>>>
>>>I'm assuming Azure has matured considerably since then. I would not have considered it ready for a public preview release at the time.
>>>
>>>The LearnDevNow video may be that old.
>>
>>I certainly think that it was targeting an older Azure release - it was using a couple of classes that have been deprecated (the MS sample had been updaed to show the newer approach)
>>
>>>I've let my LearnDevNow subscription expire in favor of PluralSight BTW. They have a better selection of current technologies and they tend to dig deeper into them.
>>
>>I haven't looked at PluralSight but I'm sure your'e right - as above, the LearnDev series seems to work well as an introduction to the technologies that it covers but lacks real world meat.
>
>Completely agree with Bill. Also, the plagiarism may not have taken the effort your portray - they offered source code for an additonal $29 or so a year.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on them but, regardless of how little the fee, charging me to watch them type in code from an already available MS sample and then asking more if I want to get their version of the source code seems a bit like sharp practice :-}

> LearneDevNow is a very good deal, but Pluralsight has raised the quality and breadth of on-line training for MS and related technologies to a whole new level. IMO a must have for everyone.

I'll get round to trying Pluralsight eventually......
