UPDATE: I was in fact known as Mickey at first, and still am by most of my relatives. My dad was an ardent Yankees fan in Red Sox country and I was born the winter after Mickey Mantle won the triple crown. You do the math ;-) Fortunately they arrived at the great compromise, probably one of the few they would have. My mom was young and in love and wanted to name me Virgil Elroy Beane, Jr. after my father. He said I've been living with that name and it's no treat. They compromised on Michael Elroy Beane.

Please don't call me Elroy ;-)
