Like most cliches, there is some truth to that. When a person loses their purpose in life -- and for some it is work -- they lose their will to live.

Similarly, people tend to die soon after entering a nursing home. There are statistics on that. Of course, they aren't in great shape when they go in.

On Friday I was chatting with one of my favorite coworkers and somehow the subject of nursing homes came up. She said her younger son has told her that he will put her in the nicest nursing home she can afford ;-) I must have appeared a little taken aback because she hastened to say he was joking. She added that her jokester gene seems to have been passed on completely.
