>At the keynote for Southwest Fox 2011, Rick Schummer, Tamar Granor, and I had the pleasure of announcing this year’s recipients of the FoxPro Lifetime Achievement Award: Drew Speedie, Steven Black, and Toni Feltman. See my blog for details and anecdotes about the presentation: http://doughennig.blogspot.com/2011/10/2011-lifetime-achievement-award.html.

I think you have an annual nominations period so I am way jumping the gun. Here are some others I think are deserving. Some probably go back further than you want to consider.

Tom Rettig. Now that a precedent has been set for posthumous awards, he is the obvious one. A FoxPro awards group without him in it is as silly as the baseball hall of fame without Babe Ruth.

YAG. I had to check and double check. Why on earth is he not in there?!

Anders Altberg

Mike Feltman

Marcia Akins, Andy Kramek

Dan Freeman

Alan Schwartz, Andy Neil, or Chick Bornheim of MicroMega, take your pick.

Bob Grommes

Sergey Berezniker

Andrew Ross MacNeill

Les Pinter

Ken Levy?!?! Another shocker. Maybe Microsoft has advised you to include their people out. That must be the case because Calvin Hsia and Randy Brown are in the same category. They were both giants in the community before joining MS, as was YAG.

Jim Booth. He was a tireless contributor to the fledgling developers who came along after FoxPro 2.0, including me. It never seemed to bother him to answer the same questions over and over. He was always encouraging and had a wry sense of humor. And there is one more thing. Technically it should not factor into professional awards but it tells you what kind of person he is. Doug Dodge told me that JimB called him practically every day for a year after Doug's son Jonathan died. Doug said all I wanted to do was sit in my basement and cry and Jim kept me afloat. Plus, I bet he would give a heck of an acceptance speech ;-)

Out of curiosity, did someone accept Drew's award on his behalf?
