Seriously, due dilligence on what gets on your machine is key. I've run my box since i started working on computers with admin rights, and no anti-virus. I have yet to be corrupted.

Not saying that's right for everybody - it isn't, but there's no precedent here for me.

FWIW, I wasn't suggesting anybody should run with UAC off, but to trouble shoot permissions problems that would be my first plan of action trying to determine what the problem is. UAC causes all sorts of weird security behavior that's difficult to track once UAC kicks in and starts redirecting files. If you want to figure out what's going on in a broken scenario you need to first see if your app is doing what you think it should be doing without UAC getting in the way. Then you can turn it back on and see how to make it work with UAC enabled and work around those issues.
