I was also reminded of a neighbours daughter who hand-raised a *very* young tawny owl that had been orphaned. Once it could fly it was allowed out at night and soon became able to hunt for itself.

But for several years afterwards it would regularly pitch up on the sill of the girls bedroom window for an hour or so at dusk.
