There's enough to stop buying from countries that are grossly over charging for oil. Indeed, there is enough to stop buying from anyone outside north America. I imagine that if the pipeline got started, the Saudis and Opec would reduce the price of oil and keep it low until the pipeline construction stopped.

>Oil is a commodity sold on the worldwide market. Domestically produced oil is traded as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) light sweet crude and is priced the same as oil produced in the mideast. By way of comparission, Brent crude, from the North Sea is presently trading around $11 higher than WTI.

And our firends the US oil companies treat the US just like anyone else. If OPEC cranks prices, our friends crank prices. If supplies get short (artificially normally), our friends sell to the highest bidder. F#@k the US.

But our friends want us to open new supplies to them no matter what the environmental or health effects because... um... because... they are our friends?? Because they will give us favorable prices (HAH!!)? Because that ensures oil supplies for the US (they sell to the highest bidder no matter what)??

Nope - because they'll have more to screw the US and anyone else with.

Our friends, the US oil companies.
