I think your "mega site" comment holds true for pretty much any modern framework in any language. Unless you truly, madly, deeply need "web scale", discussions are in danger of turning into something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2F-DItXtZs

It's worth pointing out that the original question in that StackOverflow thread, and most of the responses, are nearly 3 years old now. I looked briefly for some current Ruby or RoR benchmarks, I didn't find any. I did find that Ruby is used in a couple of interesting places:

- the Metasploit framework
- in addons for Google Sketchup
