Last time I bought a cell phone in the US, it was one of the throwaway "free" phones which went with the initial prepaid amount, and then you'd buy more minutes as prepaid cards in a grocery. The instruction manual was rather interesting: about 20% of the contents was about the technical aspect, how to do this or that with the phone. The rest was about various options regarding money - the cost and terms of each option. Plus small print.
The most developed feature in this branch is creative billing. And now they want to charge for that creativity too.
