Metin,

Remote Desktop does not require a plugin at the user as it is part of Windows. It might need to be chosen to be installed as part of Windows as it might not be ON by default (not sure).

The 2X option does require the client to have the 2X thin client application installed which is free of charge, can be downloaded from the 2X website directly, is very simple to install, and has no end-user royalty unlike Citrix or VMWare so it is cheaper plus there are thin client apps for Windows, Linux, Java/Browser, Apple, iPad, Android.

>>And obviously RDC 6 and later is included in Windows 7 (and I'm sure it will be in Windows 8). It is very fast by the way, faster than previous versions of Remote Desktop with enhanced screen transfer rates. It offers Windows 7 Aero theme support if the server is set to Aero theme as well.

>>Furthermore, if you use a remote desktop solution like 2X from www.2x.com, which provides a better server administration interface than native remote desktop, but still works on top of Remote Desktop, you can get 2X client apps for Windows, Linux, Java inside a Web Browser, Apple, iPad, and Android. What that means is that you can offer your VFP application, unchanged in any way, to users using Windows, Linux, Java enabled Browsers, Apple Macs, iPad, Android, even smartphones.
>>
>>I suspect that for many software developers this is ideal because you can offer your clients an internet and/or browser based solution using the existing VFP app using only a thin client installation for the client and everything else hosted on your server using Microsoft technology or Microsoft certified partner technology.
>>
>>Why re-program your VFP app to force it into a browser model using Javascript/Ajax when this will run the existing VFP app (or any application in fact) without any code change at all? Proviso; you might need to change some of your code to store local user preferences under their log-in names. But this is probably much less work than any other solution which would probably need to do this as well.
>>
>>You do need to buy a concurrent user license called a CAL but this is only for a concurrent user. So you need to work out how many concurrent users you expect to have and buy that many licenses. However, these licenses are not expensive, about US$50 or there about, and it is a once-off fee.

>>>Jos, thanks for the info regarding Remote Desktop.
>>>
>>>For Luis: Here is some info from the link that Jos posted:
>>>
>>>"To use TS Web Access, client computers must be running RDC 6.1. (RDC 6.1 [6.0.6001] supports Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1.) RDC 6.1 is included with the following operating systems:
>>>
>>> * Windows Server 2008
>>> * Windows Vista® with Service Pack 1
>>> * Windows XP with Service Pack 3"
>>>
>>>Just a reminder that the answer to your original question depends on whether you want to build "Web apps" or "Web apps that can only be accessed from Windows".
