>>Hey Victor,

>>This has nothing at all to do with files in use. Just wanted to let you know that I am finally reading "Ghost in the Wires" and ripping through it. Not as fast as you did but it's the only book I am reading at the moment, which says something right there. (Usually I am an incorrigible reader of multiple books at once). Let's face it, Kevin Mitnick is not a very likeable main character -- boastful and full of himself -- but the book is still entertaining.

Yes, agreed. I read some more last night and am up to the point where he has been arrested and goes on the lam.

It's odd that I hadn't fully realized how much he annoyed me until making the comment to you. Now it gets more and more noticeable. The other thing that is driving me nuts is his incessant use of the word "social-engineered." I have never seen that "word" used anywhere and here it is popping up every few pages. What he means by it is getting some information he shouldn't have by calling up a customer service rep or other employee of a phone company, government agency, etc. Generally he pretends to be an insider as well. "I social-engineered this information from a trusting lady at the DMV." What he in fact means is "tricked." I guess that wouldn't sound as clever. Another really annoying habit is repeatedly describing people as idiots. Evidently in his mind there is room for only one genius.

His mission, basically the way he was spending his entire life, was to be able to make unlimited free phone calls. That's it? No remarkable discoveries or achievements, no tempests at sea, no tales of redemption? (Maybe there will be one of those; I haven't finished it yet). It would be nice to think the stakes were a little higher than free phone calls.

At this point I am actively rooting for him to get caught <g>.
