I know of no easy way to run FPW26 on a Win7 64-bit machine.

There is a 32-bit version of Windows 7, and FPW26 would run on that, but you can't downgrade a 64-bit installation to 32-bit. You would have to wipe the HD and completely reinstall everything.

If you go the VM route, you have two main choices:

1. Use the upgrade path I outlined earlier to get XP Mode on the computer. You have to pay to upgrade from Home Premium to Professional. However, once you do that, the XP Mode download is free, and includes a license for 32-bit Windows XP SP3 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC#Windows_XP_Mode ).

2. Use a non-MS virtual machine manager (e.g. Oracle VM VirtualBox [ https://www.virtualbox.org/ ], which is free). You would then create a VM using VirtualBox, then install Windows XP on that VM. You would need to purchase or otherwise acquire a valid license for Windows XP in this scenario.

Probably, option 1 would be best in your case. It sets up the XP VM with minimal user intervention or expertise, and the VM is configured to operate as seamlessly with the Win7 host as possible. You may also find the price of the Win7 upgrade from Home Premium to Professional is less than the cost of acquiring a separate XP license.

If you want to explore working with VMs seriously, and you have sufficient hardware, I'd use option 2. Other virtual machine managers (VMMs) such as VirtualBox are more powerful and flexible than XP Mode/Virtual PC. But, to use them effectively and get the most out of them requires some expertise.
Regards. Al
