One column in the grid contains a checkbox connected to a logical field in the cursor which the user can use to select multiple records for further processing. Is there a way to hide or disable the checkbox if another field in that same record is blank, for example?

Yes, use DynamicCurrentControl. In case the field is blank, return "" from DynamicCurrentControl()

eg
Column.DynamicCurrentControl = [iif(empty(cursor.field1), '', 'check1')]
