PNG is supported in VFP9. But it is recommended that you have SP2 installed, to avoid some bugs.

But there is another known remaning issue, that is some flickering in the PNG images, when you pass the mouse cursor over these images. This unwanted effect is more visible if you put other obejcts over the image objects that use PNGs
