I take exception to the phrase "pushing an agenda" ( compulsory gender reassignment?)

But it does show that two aspects of humanity that seem to become more threatening when shared with specificity are sexuality and religious belief. In our culture we usually deal with religious belief by listening politely when someone states a general "religious preference" and then, depending on our world-view, either approve of the rightness ( or righteousness ) of their conviction or give them the benefit of the doubt that they don't really believe that so we don't have to question their intelligence ( or prospects for salvation ) .

With sexuality we have the majority hetero contract, whereby we don't think too much about the sex lives of others unless we want it to somehow involve us ( or we are bored and they are particularly attractive ) . Anything outside of this leads to the "ick" factor.

Both of these areas are particularly a problem for those who feel they have been somehow blessed with a lock on Truth. Tim Tebow being himself is "sticking it in my face". Janis Booth is "pushing an agenda". Mitt Romney is probably planning to secretly baptize the ancestors of Evangelicals and Wall Street's problems can be explained by the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. And creches and menorah are definitely a threat and need to be purged from public view along with "holiday greetings" that push a "moral agenda"

Life is tough and very complicated. And so are people. But as a great rabbi said, "Judge not, lest ye be judged.".

>>Unless Jim asked you to do so, you need to stop and think before you post. The quote from Jim's facebook was to the effect that here my new facebook, if you want to reconnect fine, if not fine. Thus leaving it to the individual to proceed as they wish.

>>You are posting and pushing an agenda that everyone has to cheer this announcement. To not do so, one would either have to not reply or lie.
>>
>>A simple announcement explaining how to locate Jim might have been neutral and acceptable, but I for one do not appreciate having anyone's moral agenda pushed on me with your 'congrats'. Whether or not you think congrats are in order is your business and your opinion, please keep it to yourself.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
