The beauty of NoScript is that, by default, it blacklists all sites i.e. disables all "active" content like JavaScript, Java, Flash, PDFs etc. These are currently by far the most common malware attack vectors.

But, you can whitelist sites you trust so they act normally. Even better, as Dragan points out, you can selectively whitelist or blacklist individual components of sites so you can filter out banner ads, click counting and all other manner of unnecessary chaff. It's a real eye-opener, visiting a new site with NoScript, and looking at its status display to see how many extraneous 3rd-party sites/domains it tries to load, both their content and their scripts.
