Another great video --

Madison is one of the coolest places in the U.S. My beloved younger daughter Emily, who I love more than anyone on the planet, along with her sister, goes there as an engineering major. Mad Town was entirely her decision and a pleasant surprise to me. She was looking east and west at colleges and then fell in love with Madison. It has that effect on people.

One of the things I have always admired and respected about her is she has made her own decisions from about the age of 6. She will listen but when you try to tell her what to do she gives you that stony look. "I've got it under control, Dad." And she does. She has all my brains, all her mom's, and some that can only be described as god given.

Her first semester was a great one. I warned her that being an engineering major at Madison was not going to be an easy gig. You're going to have to work hard for the first time. She didn't believe me. Within a couple of weeks she believed me. The bane of her existence was an advanced math class she was placed into. Turns out it is the most flunked class at UW-Madison and the washout point for engineering majors. She called me and said I'm afraid I'm going to flunk this class. She worked really hard on it, went to tutoring sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, and got a B. She said when I saw that grade I was literally jumping up and down. Jump around.
