Some of you have been subscribers of the News Alert option since a few years. This is a mechanism to alert members by email about new items in the News section. The use of email for this broadcast is getting more and more useless over the years as Facebook and Twitter for example are taking over much of this.

The Universal Thread has a Facebook Fan page and a Twitter account. I am thinking of relying on those services within a few weeks for the news broadcast. We also have the RSS news feed as well as the Widget that many have installed on their Web server.

So, as of now, it is expected that this old option would be superceeded mostly by the Universal Thread Facebook fan page and the Universal Thread Twitter account. I encourage members who do not have an account on those services to create one as they see fit, if they do not have one already. In the meantime, I would like to collect feedback on this upcoming change. As I said, it is expected but if we have some die hard members who really rely on that exclusively for their news feed and wouldn't want to do otherwise, I will consider expanding its lifetime support.
