>I have been working to move an SBT installation into windows 7, which is running source code in VFP 7. All is running fine except for some funky printing problems. They have an old dot matrix printer that uses an LPT port. The new computer doesn't have an lpt port, so we have a usb to LPT adapter plugged in and a batch file to run "net use lpt1 \\localhost\generic" as the printer.

As soon as you leave the SBT window and look to see if the doc is in a queue somewhere (the port is set to print directly to the printer, however), the printer starts working.

I've seen people try to use USB to parallel converters a couple of times, I've not seen them work reliably.

If you must continue to use the old printer, your best bet for reliable operation is to add a parallel port adapter to the computer. Here's an example of a PCIe adapter: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=49787 . If you need to use a PCI interface card there are adapters for PCI as well.

Another possibility is to purchase and use a network print server. Some of those are available with parallel ports e.g. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=40175
