True. But that kind of thing has happened in every denomination that claims to have a direct and perfect line to knowing the Divine Mystery. It's happened not only in Christendom generally, but also in Islam (obviously), and to a lesser but real degree in Judaism. In all cases, the hierarchical factions, at the least, actively discriminate against those members of their religion who cling to the philosophically defensible position that we can and do experience the Divine Mystery, and that is to be treasured, but as our experience, not a universal experience to be imposed on others. It's a divide that goes back to the Greek philosophers, and the terms of the arguments really haven't changed much since then. Because of it, every now and then through history, a lot of people die.

>>Couldn't agree more. Pistachio is not everyone's favorite flavor. Left-handed is not a sign of the devil (although thought to be at one time). Cats are not the devil incarnate (although thought to be at one time; shortly before they were exterminated in Europe, which was shortly before the number of rats in Europe soared, which was shortly before the The Plague).

>>>OK, but there are many roads to happiness, many of which are different or even opposite to what we may believe. Just as most Americans do not need a passport because they know the US is the greatest nation on earth so there is no need to expose themselves to the outer badlands, some communities may be very happy with their consensus on other topics. Seems to me that in the end we are all responsible for our own happiness.
