A long time ago I went to a minor league hockey game in Toronto. One of the players was named Turkiewicz; every time he got the puck, all the spectators would start gobbling. You couldn't hear yourself think.
In hindsight, a Canadian minor-league hockey player with a name like that - he must have been a genuine tough guy.
