>>>>I really believe Leonardo DiCaprio is the best actor working.

>>>I guess you didn't see Gangs of New York then?

>>>DiCaprio isn't in the same league as the greats, like Daniel Day-Lewis. I like him just fine, but "best actor working"? No way, Jose.

>>Yeah, I can't see any way Leo could pull off something like "There Will Be Blood".

>>I have a personal preference for actors who can really disappear into their roles. A lot of times you can watch a film and think, "Hey, there's (some actor here) playing (some role here)." I prefer not to think of the actor. In that vein I like Edward Norton, for one. It's surprising how many people think of "Fight Club" as a Brad Pitt movie.

>Definitely agreed about Ed Norton. He is terrific. That's not taking anything away from Brad Pitt, who IMO is constantly underrated as an actor because he's so good looking.

>Another recommendation: "A River Runs Through It."

I think one of the best (and versatile) of the modern actors today is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I think the most versatile actor ever is Al Pacino - just review the list of roles he's played, and how wide ranging and good his performances have been.

A great Edward Norton performance is in the movie Rounders.

Speaking of A River Runs Through It, directed by Robert Redford, the first movie he directed was Ordinary People which won best director and best picture for 1980. It's a good one to re-watch if you haven't seen or haven't seen it in years. Matt Damon studied it when he wrote the great screenplay for his movie Good Will Hunting.

If you liked the movie Scarface from 1983, you must watch an amazing documentary from 2006 called Cocaine Cowboys, about the drug rings in Miami in the early 80s, with interviews from many of those involved on both sides. This documentary is available via Netflix instant streaming and also via Amazon Instant Videos for Prime members. http://movies.netflix.com/Movie/Cocaine_Cowboys/70058098
