>>The issue is that human beings in droves are transferring allegiance to smartphones.
A GI who just returned from Iraq told me that the one English word that all the Iraqi kids knew was IPhone. They all wanted to play with his.
That's a long way from the kids who tried to hustle cigarettes from me.

I agree that people are swarming to Smartphones, but from what?

Many of them, like my grandsons and like those Iraqi kids, had nothing before.

Did you have a mobile phone when you were 10 years old? Think about the billions of kids walking into classrooms around the world with phones in their pockets. That's a huge factor in this story.

As far as transferrring allegiance... some are replacing cameras, some are replacing dumb phones, some land lines, some are replacing game boxes- some IPods. Some are replacing GPS devices. My Kindle Fire is great at what it does, but it is replacing paper.
Do you see Smartphones displacing laptops or desktops? I haven't seen that. I see them supplementing them.
Do you think that I could be typing this on a phone? - no way!
I'm working with a client who would love to use them in a delivery operation that requires some data entry.
We've done some prototypes, but the drivers' fingers are too large to do any significant data entry on one of them.
By the time my texting grandsons come of age, that will probably not be an issue
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
