>>>>>>>This is what I think makes this guy such a good President. When there is firm opposition to his views he will bend. He isn't dug in like some. In this case he recognized major resistance to a policy decision and gave them an out, without abandoning those the policy was intended to benefit. I don't call that caving in, I call it dealing with reality in a badly polarized country.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>You don't hear so much any more from those who thought he was too inexperienced or soft to be President. He is a lot tougher than he is sometimes given credit for. He pushed the button on taking out Osama bin Laden, something his more bellicose predecessors had been trying to do for years. That was a risky operation that would have blown up in his face big time if it had failed. He said go.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>He stood up for the "bailout" of banks during the financial crisis in 2008, when he was the opposition candidate and had every political reason to oppose it. Because he thought it was the right thing to do. (In case anyone has forgotten, the government wound up making money on the deal).
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>I don't think he is perfect and have disagreed with him on some things. He has made some mistakes, as all Presidents do. He's still my guy. And he will undoubtedly be reelected.

>>>>>>Hey Mike, just thought I'd pop in to comment quickly.
>>>>>>
>>>>>>On the compromise, how does this change anything? The "compromise" still requires religious employers to pay for insurance that goes against their religious principals. 1st amendment anyone?
>>>>>>
>>>>>>On the New Yorker cover : The big game is between Obama & whoever emerges for the Reps. The championship for that Rep is between Romney and Santorum. Obama is watching the equilivent of the divisional round. ;)

>>>>>Hey, Jake. I was wondering where you have been. Here's hoping you are well.

>>>>>I do not foresee any scenario in which it's Santorum. Too late now. Romney is the guy.
>>>>
>>>>Romney has been declared the default winner for too long, yet cannot close anything.
>>>>
>>>>The only thing it's "too late" for is those who never ran. Although there is still the possibility of a brokered convention which throws open the field. You'll have to excuse the giddy kid inside me beaming at the thought. ;)
>>>
>>>Good lord, the brokered convention scenario again. Every four years.
>>>
>>>It's over. Just accept it.
>>
>>Romney cannot win in the south (Florida's 1/2 delegation notwithstanding). He's now behind in Michigan, combined with his loss in Iowa and the bad showing in lat week's beauty pagents, there's really bad news for him coming from the midwest. He's got the northeast. That leaves the west which is still up for grabs. That's not a recipe for 1245 delegates.
>
>I was too hasty in calling it over. Two new polls show it is dead even between Romney and Santorum. A lot of people just don't like Romney. Not just the hard right, either. The guy changes his positions constantly and leaves the impression that he will say anything in order to be elected.
>
>The guy I kinda like is Jon Huntsman, although he never gained any traction in the race. And even more so, his daughters. Here is a short piece from The New Yorker recently that had me cracking up all the way through it. Clever young ladies.
