Have you tried clearing the cache in IE and FF, and removed any Twitter-related cookies in those browsers?
Do you have any Twitter-related browser add-ons, or any that might affect Twitter?
Does your antivirus have any component that plugs into IE or FF to offer "safe" browsing or the like?
Update: it looks like Twitter has gone to https:// by default:
