Now that the free MS Security Essentials is available, I don't see much reason to use 3rd-party AV in a non-corporate setting. I've had a lot of trouble with McAfee and Symantec over the years, I'd say get rid of them and use MSE.
What I find a bit scary is that Intel bought McAfee, and is considering baking it into systems at the BIOS level:
