http://archive.computerhistory.org/resources/text/Cray/Cray.Cray2.1985.102646185.pdfThe story I have always liked about Seymour Cray was that in addition to being a brilliant computer designer he was also an avid sailor. He was out on the water every chance he got. He designed his own sailboats. And at the end of every season he would burn the boat. Someone asked him why the heck anyone would burn a perfectly good boat. He said because over the winter I want to make one even better and don't want to be tied to this year's design.
I just checked his bio on Wikipedia and was reminded that he was also the designer of the fastest computer in the world before the Cray, at Control Data Corporation (CDC). And that he was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
