In reality they just have more oil they can gouge consumers for as they have done all along while keeping congressmen and other government officials pocketed securely in order to duck responsibility for environmental damage.

When it comes to huge money interests that can effectively operate as a monopoly on a critical part of the economy while purchasing lawmakers and press to suit their needs, supply and demand becomes irrelevant.

No - I think if anything prices would go up faster as the poor oil companies have to make up for their partially tax funded expenses they incurred in order to increase their incredible profit margin.
