Don't know about the Cullinan, but the Hope diamond was apparently insured ( $145.29 ): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_Diamond#Smithsonian_ownership . I wonder what was the declared value :)

In 1958, $145 would be almost 2 weeks pay for the average working Joe (but probably not for Harry Winston).
