It sends whatever you pass to the Debugger's Debug Output window, so it interferes with the running code much less. Best of all, if you forget to remove DebugOuts, the user is no wiser, since they're ignored at runtime.

For debugging, sure. But I bet you take them out after that.

BTW, I am enjoying your automation book, even though it's unclear whether I will be needing the knowledge right away. As I told you privately, I have some experience with it but it was clear from the job listing that OLE automation is key and I wanted to come across as more expert than merely competent if it came to an interview. Also as I told you privately, there is a feeding frenzy around here over this short term contract with a possibility of hiring. I have now heard from five recruiters about it and seen it posted twice on LinkedIn by other recruiters trolling for candidates. It's like sharks in bloody water.

On to cheerier matters -- baseball. You have undoubtedly heard that Ryan Braun's steroids suspension was overturned, the first successful appeal ever. You know he is my favorite baseball player, along with Tim Lincecum. This is a squirrelly case and I find myself conflicted about it. The facts and the reason for upholding the appeal are opaque. There are reasons to believe he is guilty as hell. After the stench of the steroid era the sanctity of the game is paramount. If he really was guilty -- IF -- the worst possible message to send would be to give him a pass because he's the brightest young star in the game. I like the game of baseball more than any individual player, even Ryan Braun.
