It sounds like your database is not properly designed. If it is not properly designed, you will not be able to implement an elegant search. By elegant, I mean a straight forward SQL-Select statement.

Do all three tables have the identical structure?
If so, why are there three separate tables? Why isn't all the data in one big table?
