Hi Gary,

>Is there anyway to tell from the db file what it is? can I hex read the header or anything?

Should that product be Sybase adaptive (or oracle) and you are not even delivered the product identity, I'd recommend you spend your time at other things. In view of what is delivered - nothing - we may infer that it is a simpler embedded db à la Sybase anywhere (ex Watcom SQL) or the isam-based Advantage product.

In these cases you can certainly try to work with:
http://www.sybase.com/products/databasemanagement/advantagedatabaseserver
http://www.sybase.com/products/databasemanagement/sqlanywhere/mobileapplications

Concerning the latest (sybase anywhere) and in case you don't have the admin password and a decent understanding of DBMS engines, may I insist that these are high-grade products that are more difficult to break than an OS...

Sorry, Garry, you deliver too little information to start with:)
