>>There's no way any post-mortem baptism of Daniel Pearl was random - for sure it was deliberate. He was world-famous for his religion, for crying out loud. Someone screwed up big-time.

>It could have been a cousin 6 times removed who joined the church and wanted to give Daniel the opportunity to accept Christ when the final tally is called. But you're going to denigrate an entire religion and their beliefs because of a couple of mistakes? Where is your outrage over the Catholic Church Priest Sex abuse scandal that involved hundreds of priests and the cover up that ensued? Where is your outrage when Muslim jihadists kill and rape Americans?

I am sure Al would not claim the Daniel Pearl thing was anything other than what is typical in religion - a sincere belief that one has a truth that would benefit others.

I learned a lot about the Mormon faith a while back and while I find most of its view of history and ultimate reality doesn't resonate with me it certainly has been remarkably successful in contributing to the successful lives of many people.

Seems the baptism thing is in the category of someone of faith telling me I am in their prayers. The sentiment is sincere and friendly, so what is the harm?

( I might add that when I was writing software for St. Joseph Academy here in Cleveland the joke was that I was probably the first fourth generation Mason who was being mentioned *favorably* in the prayers of the Sisters of St. Joseph <bg> )

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
