Thanks, but that is a different issue. SYS(3055) allows a TABLEUPDATE to exceed 40 fields...the previous maximum number of fields that could be contained in a FOR or WHERE clause...that's where the 'TOO LONG' comes in.
The problem I reported was the new inablility of a grid's record source to hold more that 254 characters.
Re 2054 characters in a command, I have many SELECT statements that are longer than that...just added one up I've been working on and it's about 4,000 characters and is no way close to largest I've written.
