That's true if you define it that way but it isn't if you don't and therein lies the rub.
Practically speaking, since many DB's default column values to NULL, it means that:
a- no has populated this column in this row
or
b - someone stuck a NULL value in it.
because of that inherent ambiguity, it loses its utility to me.
PS: I've never had dates of 1753, but I'd bet they'd be great dancers!
