>>I never heard MS say "it's impossible to make local engine with with 64-bit OS"
The EOL statement did reference 64-bit involving an almost complete rewrite.
Not that it matters: YAG and those others waged an effective internal campaign against a decision we now know had been made years earlier. Those dudes deserve to be bought a beer whenever an old foxer meets one of them. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
