For a completely no coding option, look at cobian backup.
It compress your data and send it to FTP. Also is able to deal with lots of FTP protocols.

>Ah, and forgot to mention the FTP part. The backup app would zip and copy the backup file to a FTP visible location within the local network. The other app, in another city, would connect to the FTP a couple hours later, get the latest zip and restore it locally. Used Chilkat ActiveX for that.
