The Moorish invasion of France and Spain was thought to be a rationalization to allow the invasion of the Holy Land. In the process, many European Jews in France and Germany were killed as well as many in Jerusalem, begining in 1095. The number of Jews killed by Crusaders is thought to be in the thousands. There were attempts by the common man as well as by the Catholic Church to protect the Jews, which did not always work.

Money stolen from European Jews helped to finance later Crusades. The Jews did not have an army, as did the Muslims. Many books have been written about this topic.

Imagine if the Protestant faith existed in 1095 AD. I think that the population of Europe would have been reduced to near zero. If yours is not the "true religion", then you should not exist.
