I agree. Let him come back in legally and then welcome him.
And yes - it sounds like he has done wonderful things during his stay (illegally) here. There are an awful lot of US Citizens who could learn a lot from him apparently.
I have a number of Indian (India Indians) friends who are just astounded that illegal immigrants from Mexico are treated so well in this country while they (Indians) have to spend years or decades trying to work for their right to remain here.
